A little bit of history.....

The school was opened in 1953 occupying accommodation on R.A.F. Finningley.
In 1961 the first of two purpose built school buildings was opened to cater for children of primary school age.

When the second building was opened in 1963 the school divided to create separate Infant and Junior Schools.

Over the years the number of children within the community declined and, as a result, the two schools were amalgamated in 1986 to form Hayfield Lane Primary School.

Since then a further reduction in pupil numbers took place as R.A.F. Finningley changed, resulting in the school concentrating its resources in one building (expanded by the addition of a new nursery in December 1993) and temporary mobile classroom units. In April 1996 the closure of R.A.F. Finningley was completed and mobile accommodation removed to leave the school with only four main school classes.

Today.....

Today the school caters for children from 3 to 11 years of age and is a community co-educational day school, with a 60 place Nursery administered by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. Ex R.A.F housing is now being occupied and as a result the school has grown to its present 7 main school classes with additional mobile classroom accommodation. The school sometimes finds it difficult to offer places to families living nearby.
